Our Marching Vikings took to the streets on October 7, 2018, to help Marengo celebrate Old Settlers' Days. Not only did the Vikings show off their marching talent, they competed, too.
Our Color Guard won first place, the Marching Vikings tied for first place in the parade and our band took second place in the field competition. Our competition was Genoa-Kingston. |

According to the Genoa-Kingston High School website, their band consists of about 100 students. The website also lists eleven years of field shows so their band has a lot of competition experience.
The Marching Vikings have a smaller number of students, but NOT less talent. They put on a great show. The Vikings had an advantage by being a smaller band. The constant rain the week of the celebration made the marching field a mess, so the competition was held inside the Marengo high school gym. Our band was the only band playing and marching as our compact players had plenty of room to put on a show. The other, larger bands competing (the event also hosted Class AA and Class AAA schools) were held to playing only. This is the third year the Viking band has participated in the Old Settlers' Days parade under Mr. Lammersfeld's direction and the second year of competition. They gave it their best and it showed! |
